The Battle of the Narrow Seas
This is the history of the struggle for control of the Narrow Seas which stretch north-east and south-west form the Straits of Dover. It began in the summer of 1940 when the European ports from Bordeaux to the far north had fallen into enemy hands. For more than four years a battle went on to prevent the Germans from using coastwise shipping to relieve their roads and railways and, at the same time, to keep open our own convoy routes around the southern-and eastern shoes of England.
